(FS) Carson Blackmon -- Houston

FREE SAFETY

Strengths
He is without a doubt one of the more underrated defensive backs coming out in this years draft. His lack of exposure for the most part has been a contributing factor to his obscurity to most.

He is a very instinctive player both in run and pass defense. Who plays with more physical toughness than his size indicates. He may not possess what some consider ideal measurables, but he more than makes that up with his skills sets, and play on the field! He reminds me of current NFL safety Tyrone Carter.

He is in constant attack mode when laying the wood to opposing opponents. Who is a fearless hitter, and his competitive nature comes out whenever he steps foot on the field.

He displays the ability to consistently play physical at the point of attack versus blockers, despite his size, he will come up and support with the best of them on his way to making plays on the ball.

He excels the closer he is to the line of scrimmage, as more of an in the box defender. He looks to initiates first contact with ball carriers. He is very effective wrapping up and delivering heavy contact to opposing ball carriers. Really good finisher on tackles. He also shows the consistency to step over trash to make his way sideline to sideline with an eagerness to make a path to ball. His instincts & physical attributes and desire to support the run are contributing factors to his success.

In pass defense he shows the ability to plant and get to the ball while in the air. He has exceptional instincts diagnosing and taking proper angles making a way to balls thrown across along the field in his territory.

He is also an effective blitzer coming off the edge when he was deployed by his college coaching staff. Showing they have a confidence in his ball hawking skills, intensity, and ability to make things happen once he gets near the quarterback.

Weaknesses
Lack of what's considered ideal measurables

Pass defense questioned due to lack of evaluation time finding on

May lack exceptional catchup speed when needed

Projected Round
Undrafted Free Agent

My Value Board
6th Round - Undrafted Free Agent

Summary
All Carson needs is an opportunity to be drafted or invited to some NFL teams training camp. And I have every confidence he will be on some NFL teams roster, and eventual starter in their defensive backfield! A true diamond in the rough.
